James Mize (b.1998) Is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist from Tongva Land; Southern California. His practice is rooted in the exploration of ‘lived experience’. Deeply curious about the natural world, grounded in realism the artist's’ work is an evolving reflection of unfolding occurrences around — through varying changing themes of awakenings, emotion, universal sexuality, gender identity, dreams, and the ever-shifting perception of the self.

As a form of intuitive expression, the artist invites viewers to absorb his work through the beauty of interconnectedness and rejecting hierarchy in both subject, role and form. By tuning into this vulnerability, the artist invites others into a state of non-judgmentally; feeling, remembering, becoming.

James enjoys predominantly studying and depicting environmental subjects, our friends who were here long before us alongside our feet; Animalia. Whilst presently in education for Art History and on track to obtaining a certificate in Entomology, his ultimate aim is to further knowledge grasped of our direct environment, whilst examining how such humans formulated their depictions of recording history, expressing their feelings and lived experiences through practices before the invention of modern outlets we choose to utilize today.

“I constantly am discovering new ways in which to enrich my skillsets for the greater good of mankind. I enjoy reading literature in varying topics in my spare time, mainly non-fiction. I ground walk daily, live an avid plant-based lifestyle from diet to wardrobe and offer open empathetic presence to all that comes into view.”
